Project Profile: PO is an important chemical raw material, which can be produced by two technologies, i.e. the traditional polyepichlorohydrin method and the co-oxidation method, the latter one accounting for 50% of total amount of PO produced all over the world now. Owing to strong corrosion to equipment and large amounts of ˇ°three wastesˇ± (wastewater, waste gas and waste solids) discharged into environment, the polyepichlorohydrin method is greatly restricted in development. The co-oxidation method can be again divided into two joint production processes, i.e. isobutene co-oxidation and ethylbenzene co-oxidation processes. Production of styrene by way of joint production of SM/PO is the priority process in most of domestic and overseas newly built projects.
As the initial consideration for this project, the joint production facilities will be built with the SM/PO co-oxidation technology. Comparison among different proposals has shown that this technology has its inherent advantages of high economic performances in production of PO, low prices in raw materials, equipment made of common carbon steels, low costs and less pollution.
Planned annual production throughput of the projects would be PO 250,000 tons and SM 550,000 tons.
